The beginning of a great adventure!

It’s been one of those times when you can’t believe your luck. The opportunity to explore an area of true beauty and diversity then make new linocuts and monoprints in response to my findings. Working in response to the North York Moors National Parks new Dark Skies Reserve status. Starscapes will be a solo exhibition of new work, new scenes and new skies.

But where to start? Introducing yourself to a new area and trying to get a feel for the place involves exploring and there is no better way than on foot. Immediately I started to notice the flora of the paths, wild flowers, cow parsleys, wheat, barley and hedgerows. I was put in mind of Michael Landy, a member of the YBA (Young British Artists) who in 2001 gathered all his possessions together and destroyed them in public. Over 7000 objects until he was only left with the boiler suit he was wearing. When he started to make art again his new works were detailed etchings of weeds, as if starting from scratch he wanted to document the start of his next journey as I am now.

The finished prints will be show at the Inspired by… gallery, Danby Nr Whitby from the 19th February until 3rd April 2022
